Situated on beautiful Upper Arrow Lake, under the graceful view of the Monashee Mountains around them, Sarah and Jason hosted an intimate Halcyon Hot Springs wedding. Wildfire smoke had lingered over the Kootenays for weeks. But on the morning of their wedding, blue sky started to peek through the haze. And just as they said their vows, Sarah and Jason were graced with a sprinkling of rain, a little grace and relief dropping from the sky after a long year of waiting.
When did you decide to get married?
Time starts to blur when I talk about how long Jason and I have been together. Marriage has always been a part of our conversations but over the years those conversations started to have more depth and meaning. When he asked me to marry him, it was easy to say yes.
We have always loved the outdoors, camping, and the mountains. The first area we started camping together in, was the Kootenay range. We would start out with no plan, camp for a few nights, then hop into a nearby hot spring. It only seemed fitting for the wedding to be at Halcyon.
What did you enjoy most about your Halcyon Hot Springs wedding?
Even though I did most of the wedding planning, Jason was a great help in creating the fun, intimate wedding of our dreams. When it finally came to the big day, I just tried to enjoy every moment. From the morning soak, to getting ready with my girls, to the first look, and finally spending the rest of the day with Jason through the ceremony, the dinner, and the dancing. Marrying Jason, felt like celebrating the decision to spend the rest of my life with my best friend.
Some Favourite Halcyon Hot Springs Wedding Details…
There are so many favorite details from the day. I could talk forever about how everyone really stepped up to make the day perfect. From the little glass balls in the arch, to how stunning the flowers [You Floral DIY Flowers] were, yes, even the rain, because it brought smiles and laughs. The decorator [Wild Smile Events] was able to translate exactly my wishes into reality. She was even able to add the little details that were on the nice to have list. The venue [Halcyon Hot Springs wedding] was very accommodating and even gave the two of us an hour to ourselves in the hot springs to start the honeymoon off.
When we were looking for a photographer, we wanted to make sure it was someone who was able to make us feel comfortable. As many of his friends know, Jason is not a fan of having his photo taken. Since both of us cherish unexpected moments, we also thought it best to go with someone who sees and catches those moments. Bobbi checked all those boxes and more. She was a pleasure to work with, fun, and put us at ease.
Any advice for other couples?
Advice I would have for other couples is that no matter what happens or what obstacles pop up, your wedding is your special day. No matter what, it will be magical. Enjoy it.
