Jeremy and Annik wanted more than just a wedding celebration; they wanted a full-blown party that would have their friends buzzing for YEARS. And let me tell you, they delivered on every front—this was no ordinary gathering, for no ordinary group of people. They needed a hip Toronto wedding venue for this party. From a hand-made photo booth (J & A are both tech wizards) to a disco-themed dress code, they chose Standard Time for their Toronto wedding venue, closing my 2025 books in an unforgettable way.
Jeremy and Annik live in the same apartment, on different floors. Going back and forth between the two apartments was like entering two different universes: Jeremy’s with the beers abounding and music playing, Annik’s quiet abode with a couple close friends and family getting ready. They met outside their apartment for their first look because obviously the building plays a role in their story, then we went to a nearby park where they like to hang in the summer, for pre-ceremony family photos. Afterward, we had some time to walk around their neighbourhood for a few fun portraits. I’ve said it before and I’ll continue saying it forever: photos in places that mean something to you make your photos more meaningful.
You know things are going to be great when serendipity shows up. And serendipity is definitely a theme for Jeremy and Annik. For example, Annik found her wedding dress in the dumpster. Seriously! It had a broken zipper, likely why it was tossed but she’s crafty so she fixed it up and looked AMAZING. And then, when we caught an uber to Standard Time, their hip Toronto wedding Venue only a few minutes from Bloor st. I thought it a bit odd that the driver had a photo of J & A’s wedding sign on his phone. But then he explained that he’d thought the sign was cool and showed ‘the couple’ when he picked us up, not knowing it was their wedding!
The good vibes just kept rolling. Standard Time in Toronto has a chic urban vibe, setting the perfect stage for Jeremy and Annik’s energy. It’s an old warehouse with vaulted ceilings and warm red lighting–The whole place just felt alive and ready to party. J&A had built photo booth (including the computer coding) old school print out style, so that was a popular stop for high fives and hangs in the chill out space. Friends and family were all dressed to the nines in their best disco-themed outfits, and getting dressed up for looks AND fun makes everyone that much more open to a good night. Glittering fabrics, bold colours, tons of sequins, and a whole lot of personality were on display, making for a visual feast on the wide open dance floor, with more than enough mingle room their 100 person wedding!
Here’s where it gets even more exciting. Jeremy had enlisted an incredible DJ (OKAY TK), a true friend from way back, who pumped up the energy level so much that the bass literally knocked the cake RIGHT OFF THE TABLE. I’ve been doing this for a lot of years and I have never seen a tray a mini cupcakes slide onto the floor because the place is pumping… or maybe they wanted to get in on the dancing, too! Everyone was on their feet, including J & A’s moms, grooving all night. The atmosphere was electric, with laughter and slick moves and double fisting drinks from the giant bar. I STILL have Ginuwine’s Pony going though my head.
As I moved through the crowd, capturing all the goodness of all these awesome people in this fantastically hip Toronto wedding venue, it was exactly what I love about documentary photography: honest and candid, raw and emotional, everyone being themselves and feeling good. I wanted to freeze those joyful expressions, the little interactions, and the spontaneity of the dance floor. Every snapshot told a story—a belly laugh here, a throw down on the floor there, a strong hug over there. When love, friendship, and a killer playlist collide, nothing’s gonna stop us.
Honestly, the essence of the night was all about making sure everyone had the best time ever—and Jeremy and Annik nailed it! This was a celebration that truly brought people together, and it’s nights like these that make everything about the job so rewarding.
If you’re looking for a chill urban vibe and a hip Toronto wedding venue, a Standard Time Toronto wedding will not disappoint. Just remember to tell your guests to wear their best dancing shoes and HMU here to have me photograph it for you!
