Revelstoke Mountain Resort Wedding

April 11, 2019

When Kristy and Alec asked me to be their Revelstoke Mountain Resort wedding photographer, I was super excited because I love Revelstoke. When I first moved to Nelson BC, Revelstoke Mountain Resort was just finishing construction. Being that I’d only ever seen it in winter, I couldn’t wait to photograph a wedding there.

True to classic alpine weather, it rained a lot! But I must admit, I love rainy weddings. They give us glorious skies and dramatic light and make us all get cozy. The receptions are always a little more fun, with guests excited to throw down after being a little chilled. And truthfully, it feels like we all go through something together when it’s a rainy wedding. This tends to make the group all the more happy to be together.

Though it poured rain most of the day, no one batted an eye. It was a testament to the amazing crew of people who love Kristy and Alec. The rain really got going during their ceremony, and everyone gave the bridal party their own umbrellas–which made for a couple soggy guests.

Conveniently, everyone was staying at the resort so a quick wardrobe change was fairly easy! Kristy and Alec and all their loved ones traveled to Revelstoke from elsewhere, so they all spent the weekend at Revelstoke Mountain Resort with them. Having all your guests in one spot really helps the group to gel, and if gives you all the more time to spend with them.

The reception was at Revelation Lodge overlooking the valley, and just as the sun went down, the clouds cleared just enough to see some of the sunset over the mountains. It was a perfect end to an emotional day.

The ladies shared mimosas while the artists from Birch and Lace did their hair. Calyx Floral Design blew everyone away with their bouquets. Alec surprised Kristy during their first look with a gift he bought himself–they’re really big Tragically Hip fans and he bought a Lilliput hat just like Gord Downie wore on their final tour.
